East Okoboji Lakes Improvement Corporation

Board of Directors Meeting

Monday, October 19, 2020 @ 7:00 PM

Board Members Present:  Bill Maas, Joel Farley, Terry Wilts, Steve Richards, Bob Kelley and Mike Sexton.

Board Members Absent: Lois Clark and Chuck Augustine.

Guest: None

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by President Bill Maas at the Orleans City Hall Council Chambers

Adoption of Agenda

Moved by Kelley and seconded by Richards to adopt the agenda with flexibility.  Motion carried.

Approval of Minutes

Moved by Farley and seconded by Richards to approve the September 21, 2020 regular board meeting minutes. Motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report

Farley provided up to date financials to the group reporting a balance of $87,512.81. Sexton moved with second by Kelley to accept treasurer’s report.  Motion carried.

Membership Report

Wilts reported two additional memberships totaling $125.00 to bring the total dues to date of $31, 825.00.

Old Business

Francis Sites Wetland Update

Dirt work continues on the project with the road work not having been done as of this meeting. The $100,000 grant EOLIC applied for through the Water Quality Commission for phase two of project will be decided at their October 22, 2020 meeting,

2021 Aquatic Management Plan Update

The 2021 plan will be very similar to the 2020 plan with the exception that the 15 acre block treatment performed the last 2 years in the North Bay of East Lake will shift to additional treatment most likely in Lake Minnewashta.

Iowa Great Lakes Diagnostic Study Update

Lake intake monitoring and a dozen additional monitoring well sites to be determined in the next week or so. EOLIC funding will not be required for this phase of the study.

East Okoboji Island Update

Wilts confirmed with Mike Hawkins that the amount pledged from the EOLIC to support the DNR Lake Restoration Fund regarding this project is $2000.00 with another $2000.00 coming from the Okoboji Island Condo Owners Association.

Board Member Seats Available

It was discussed that several board seats are available and names for consideration should be submitted to any executive committee member.

Other issues, announcements, group sharing, etc.

Next regular meeting is scheduled for April 19, 2021 at 7:00 PM at Orleans City Hall.

It was moved by Kelley and seconded by Richards to adjourn the meeting at 7:59 PM.  Motion carried.
