Board of Directors Meeting

Monday, October 20th, 2014 @7:00 PM

Board Members Present: Jim Blum, Bob Kelley, Bill Maas, Mike Maffin, Wendell Riley, Vern Schoeneman, Bev Schumann, and Gus Tallman

Board Members Absent: Delmer Lee, Steve Richards, and Bonnie Simonson

Guests present: Jim Sholly (IGL Watershed Coordinator)

The meeting was called to order by President Bill Maas at 7:03 at the Orleans City Hall Council Chambers.

It was moved by Gus Tallman, seconded by Bob Kelley to adopt the agenda with flexibility. Motion passed.

Moved by Wendell Riley, seconded by Gus Tallman to approve the September 15th 2014 regular board meeting minutes. Motion passed.

Moved by Gus Tallman and seconded by Vern Schoeneman to accept the September 30th, 2014 Treasurer’s Report, showing a balance of $26742.60. Motion passed.

Old Business

Maas Report on Branstad activity with conservation

Bill Maas reported that he was able to visit with the governor at the Governor’s reception and emphasized the importance of the lakes area on tourism in Iowa.

Update on separate issues of water level and speed limits

The consensus of the board was to continue to separate these two issues. It was suggested that a letter be drafted and shared with concerned parties that shows the board’s support for a high water mark in case of an emergency. Bill Maas has agreed to draft the letter.

Hog Lot Updates

No new information.

Storm water problems behind Francis Sites

Board members shared information with Jim Sholly about this problem. Jim was already aware of this issue and shared some ideas that were being considered.

Other issues, announcements, Group Sharing, etc

It was announced that Mike Shannon, a regional biologist, will be discussing funding for the state’s Legacy Fund in Spirit Lake on Wednesday night. It was explained by Jim Sholly that this fund would give a boost to a number of conservation and environmental programs if it became funded.

Next Regular Meeting is scheduled for November 17th at 7:00 PM at Orleans City Hall


It was moved by Bob Kelley and seconded by Vern Schoeneman to adjourn the meeting at 8:37 PM. Motion passed.
